Summer Book Club for Adults: This summer we will read "The Plan A Woman in a Plan B World: What To Do When Life Doesn't Go According to Plan by Debbie Taylor Williams. We will discuss this book on Friday evenings (July 9-July 30) from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Community Coffee House Community Room at 2800 Esplanade Ave., New Orleans, LA 70119. Cost for book, handouts and tea is $40 before June 30 and $50 after July 1.

On August, 29, 2009, High Voltage, Inc. worked with the LSU/AG Center Master Gardeners and the Tulane Center for Public Service on a beautification project for Frederick Douglass High School.  Musical Entertainment was provided by Cindy Scott and Brian Seeger.  This community project was sponsored by Hands On New Orleans, Home Depot, New Orleans Musicians Assistance Foundation and the Pontchartrain Kiwanis. Special Thanks to the CrossRoads Project/Creative Forces, Upper Ninth Ward Farmers Market and the Renaissance Project. 


December 20, 2008 | Destiny Luncheon



High Voltage Youth Camp (HVYC), the PeyBack Foundation, New Orleans Musician's Clinic, Women on Assignment and the Maple Street Children's Book Shop will sponsor our a Destiny Holiday Luncheon for local children on Saturday, December 20, 2008, from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. The Destiny Luncheon will take place at 3121 St. Bernard Avenue, in New Orleans. At this holiday event, children ages 8-13 will enjoy a free holiday luncheon and be entertained by John A. Brinson and the Roots of Music. Guest speaker is Mr. Happy Johnson, Founder of Blanket New Orleans. Following the luncheon, each student will receive a book from the High Voltage Giving Tree and the PeyBack Foundation. This event is completely committed.

Educational Boot Camp, New Orleans, 1/17/09

January 17, 2009| Volunteer Opportunity: Tutors to assist student prepare for educational testing.

Volunteers are needed to assist students prepare for educational testing on Saturday, January, 17th 2009. Hours are from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. or from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Free parking and lunch provided.

Back to School Supply Drive

High Voltage Youth Camp is collecting school supplies from now until August 15 as part of its Annual Back to School Supply Drive. The supplies will be given to several area organizations and schools in the New Orleans area. Businesses and individuals wishing to contribute to the drive should contact High Voltage at 504-458-3848 or info@highvoltageyouthcamp.org.

Anything from pencils to backpacks will be accepted.. Contributions will go directly toward helping children in our local neighborhoods get off to a great start in the new school year. High Voltage is a volunteer non-profit organization.

Global Youth Day of Service 2009

In honor of Global Youth Service Day, The Staples Foundation for Learning and HandsOn New Orleans supported High Voltage's Mother's Day service learning project. During this project, 34 students volunteered alongside students from UNO / Nelson Charter School in order to create colorful flower pots for seniors living in John J. Hainkel, Jr. Home and Rehabilitation Center. Following the day of service, students returned to the senior center in order to give an oral presentation to the community about what the learned from the gardening activity and in order to present seniors with the plants.

Membership Meeting
June 6, 2009 | The next meeting of High Voltage, Inc. will be held at Borders Bookstore, 3338 St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans on Saturday, June 6 at 10:00 a.m. in the cafe. Featured speaker will be Emmy-Award winning journalist, Monica Pierre. Monica has worked in both television and radio news, and has served as host of various public affairs shows. She is co-host of the morning show on WWL-AM in New Orleans.

High Voltage Youth Camp, Tulane University Center for Public Service, Xavier University and the  Herff Jones Corporation,  marked the Martin Luther King Day of Service on Saturday, January 17, 2009, by tutoring local students to help them prepare for the iLEAP and LEAP
